Lecture Details

Prof. Law is going to deliver a speech on combustion entitled “Some Fundamental Combustion Problems of Terrestrial and Extraterrestrial Interest” . The seminar will cover several topics on fundamental combustion to illustrate the technical and intellectual richness of the discipline: (1) synergistic combustion of blends of ethanol, diesel and biodiesel for enhanced atomization and soot reduction; (2) dynamics of droplet collision, especially for gelled hypergolic propellants; (3) morphology and self-acceleration of expanding flames; (4) systematic reduction of large reaction mechanisms for facilitated computation, and (5) detonative propagation of the Crab nebula shock front.

Speaker

Professor Chung K. Law

Professor Chung K. Law from Princeton University will be here for accepting the Honorary Professorship at Xi’an Jiaotong University on Dec. 18th, 2014. Prof. Law is the Robert H. Goddard Professor in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Princeton University. He is a Member of the National Academy of Engineering, the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts & Sciences. He is also directing the Combustion Energy Frontier Research Center (CEFRC), established by the US Department of Energy (DOE). Professor Law’s Combustion Group is enthusiastically involved in the combustion energy research in combustion physics and chemistry, dynamics of laminar and turbulent flames, combustion of alternative biofuels. Prof. Law is chair of several committees of AIAA and ASME, chair of NASA Combustion Science Disciplinary Working Group. He was also a former president of the Combustion Institute and has served as editor of many Combustion related journals including Combustion and Flame, Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, Combustion Science and Technology, Progress in Energy and Combustion Science, AIAA Journals, etc. He has won a great many awards issued by the Combustion Institute, AIAA, ASME, NASA, etc.
