Professors Kord Smith and Benoit Forget from Department of Nuclear Science and Technology of MIT visited School of Nuclear Science and Technology in XJTU from March 23rd to 24th. During the visit, they also conducted academic exchanges with nuclear reactor physics research group led by Prof. Wu Honghun. Liang Li, chief of Department of Cooperation and Exchange and Yang Baowen, dean of School of Nuclear Science and Technology also met with two professors and extended warm welcome to their arrival. Both sides showed their wishes to strengthen the indepth communication and cooperation in the future.
On the morning of March 23rd, Prof. Kord Smith introduced the major research area of Department of Nuclear Science and Technology of MIT and presented an academic report on problems about application of current analysis method of nuclear reactor physics in real reactor analysis. Prof. Bennoit Forget introduced the current development, theoretical model and numerical result of famous procedure OpenMC and OpenMOC exploited by his team. In the afternoon, nuclear reactor physics research group (NECP) gave a general introduction to the school, the research work and its development. Some research students in NECP team presented their research topics respectively and made in-depth discussion with professors.
On the morning of March 24th, members of NECP Lab made a detail introduction to the topics interested by Prof, Kord Smith. The two partners also discussed about the contents and forms of cooperation and determined the cooperation direction of the next step.
Finally, the two professors were interviewed by student reporters in XJTU and communicated with them about life, study and scientific research, giving their understanding about how to build a world-class university and encouraging students to do research with interest and be courageous to solve problems.
